1853 - The English Opera Company perform Maritana, marking the rise of touring opera companies
1878 - Il Trovatore is performed at Leeds Grand Theatre, the first opera performed at the venue
1890 - Leeds' oldest amateur company, Leeds Amateur Operatic Society, perform for the first time (HMS Pinafore)
1911 - Ernst Denhof's company perform Wagner's Ring Cycle in Leeds
